Waugh Cellars at the Oscars

We spun a little Oscar gold of our own this year as Waugh Cellars 2004 Dry Creek Zinfandel was part of the gift bag given to all Warner Brothers Oscar nominees, including George Clooney and the entire "Michael Clayton" cast. Among them, Oscar Winner for Best Supporting Actress Tilda Swinton.

Perhaps she's keeping her Oscar right alongside her bottle of Waugh Zinfandel!

Movie Stars: "They're Just Like Us" - they drink Waugh Cellars!

See you at the movies!

Waugh Cellars meets Michaelangelo?

Everyone says that they have the greatest customers in the world, but we really do!  Not only do I regularly get invited into your homes, receive family photos where you've had Waugh Cellars wines on the tables, I've even had a beautiful lamp made from a Waugh Cabernet bottle.  Nothing though is like the picture I received this week that I just had to share with everyone.

Taken inside Tiffany and Steve Leonardi's Ohio wine cellar, the painting was done by their 20 year-old niece Teala Thomas.  She's an art and design student at Kent State University who clearly has great things in her future.

Thanks Tiffany, Steve and Teala for truly continuing to make me feel I've got the greatest job in the world.

I just hope people won't visit your cellar before they see the Sistine Chapel and insist there's something missing in Michaelangelo's masterwork!

Cheers!

Greetings from Napa - 2008

Okay, so I did not get to update this news page as much as I would have liked to last year.  Okay, so I did not update it at all.

The good news though is I was too busy to do so and hopefully the e-mails we send out throughout the year keep you informed of everything we're up to; new wine releases, and winemaker dinners and tastings.

As usual, 2008 promises to be a great one.  For starters, we'll be introducing two new varietals to the Waugh Cellars portfolio, Petit Syrah, and I'm so excited about this, Riesling.  Many people do not consider themselves white wine drinkers until they have a taste of this wonderful grape and after that they're hooked.

I have no doubt we'll have some converts come summer!

Both of these wines were produced in very limited quantities and will be released through the Friends of Waugh Cellars.  It has given me so much satisfaction to see the FOWC start and grow in 2007.  In less than a year we exceeded our numbers and I appreciate the commitment and support you show for what I do.

I'll continue to seek out new vineyards, with the goal of bringing you the most exciting wines I can make.

On a personal note, life in Yountville with Crystal and Jordan continues to be a joy and it's amazing watching the "little man" grow right before our eyes.  He's been my partner out in the vineyards, at the winery and my many trips and I know many of you have gotten the chance to meet him.

We hope to see many of you this year and I'll do my best to check in with some news more often!

Cheers!

Happy 2007!

Greetings from Napa.

I hope everyone’s holiday season was great and that you got to spend time with those you love.

FW02_CVR_1.jpgAs always, 2007 has started out as busy as ever. We were happy to start the year with another mention in Food & Wine Magazine. The February 2007 issue saw the 2004 Waugh Cellars Chardonnay paired with a Thai Chicken Stew (page 93). Only a handful of wines get selected each issue for food pairings so we were thrilled to be included. If any of you still have some of the 2004 Chardonnay, it’s drinking beautifully.

The beginning of 2007 has us working on so many things. For starters, the long delayed but exciting as ever “Friends of Waugh Cellars” will officially launch in a few weeks. It will open the door for our customers to guarantee themselves delivery of all of the Waugh Cellars wines as well as some gems that will only be available to “Friends.” I can’t wait to tell you more about this very exclusive “club” so check your e-mail in the next few weeks.

The 2007 Taste of Passion has already been set and while I say this every year, this time around I really think we’ve outdone ourselves. Not only will the format change slightly but we’ve even decided to change locales for the TOP 2007. This year’s bash will take place in Santa Barbara at the home of great friends, Joe & Maria Fazio. They’ve opened up their magnificent home in the hills overlooking the ocean and we could not be happier. Details on this will also be showing up in your inbox in the coming weeks.

Thanks, as always, for your support. We could not do it without you.

Wishing you the best for 2007. Hope to see many of you this year.

Cheers!

Fall 2006 - Bottling & Harvest

Another fall season is upon us and that means two things, bottling and harvest.

A few weeks ago we had the usual crew of family and friends in from Oregon, Texas and even nasty old SoCal, up in Napa to help me bottle some upcoming vintages. I'm sorry to say we took our first casualty bright and early in the morning in the form of a cut to the hand but I'm happy to report Candy White made it back in more than enough time to help us finish the day. Great job, CW. You get our Super Trooper of the year award!

I'm also happy to report that the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 Zinfandel and our first ever vintage of Pinot Noir (2005) are resting happily in their bottles. If early tastes are any indication, these wines will all be spectacular!

Here's some more photos for you to enjoy from our recent bottling:

Like Father, Like Son! :)

Soon to be at your door!!!

Cheers!
