2006 Waugh Cellars Petite Sirah, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma
Created from premium Dry Creek Valley fruit, which as you know is responsible for explosive wines like the Waugh Cellars Zinfandel, this Petite Sirah was meticulously cared for at every step of its development.
After coming in from the vineyard, the fruit was slowly hand sorted to ensure only the best clusters would make it into the wine, as Petite Sirah is known for intense tannins. It was then cold soaked for five days before fermentation and then placed in 40% new Oak to mature.
The resulting wine is stunning in color and leads with espresso and coffee bean on the nose with some spicy mint notes. This all gives way to a concentrated sweet fruit aroma.
The wine hits the palate with silky flavors of plum, cherry and black currant. The weight of this powerful grape is not lost on the finish though, as the remaining tannins coat the back palate for a long finish.
